One thing that is normal about college football is chaos. Some people would like a playoff, others like it the way it is currently. The big prize every year is to have a shot at the National Title game.
After watching the last few weeks of college football I’ve come to the conclusion that a lot teams don’t want to stake their claim on a chance to play for the ship. It all started when Texas Tech upset Oklahoma a few weeks ago, everybody knew Oklahoma had the inside track to the National Title game. Ever since that shocking loss all hell has broken loose in college football.
After OU lost, the Big showdown between ‘Bama and LSU happened and LSU won that game wasn’t a shocker either way both teams were highly ranked and undefeated. Boise St. recently lost to TCU in a major upset this year and on the same day Stanford lost to Oregon to totally mess up the front-runners in BCS title race.
At the beginning of week 12 there were two undefeated teams, which were LSU and Oklahoma State. By the end of friday night Ok. State had been upset by Iowa St. leaving on one undefeated team left.
On saturday teams that we had thought snuck back into the race kicked themselves out of the race just as fast. Oregon lost to USC by a missed field goal that could have tied the game at end of regulation and Oklahoma lost to Baylor by a TD with less than a minute left in the game. Oregon and Oklahoma both have two losses so their National Title hopes will have to move on to next year.
LSU is the lone undefeated team left that has a shot at the title game, this excludes Houston. With a few weeks left in the season plus conference championship games left nobody knows who will play for the title in January.
Teams that we buried such as ‘Bama, Arkansas, Virgina Tech and Ok. State still have a shot to sneak back in the picture if they keep winning and the front-runners keep losing. With the way this year has been going I have no ideal who wants to play for the National Championship.
